Terms of Service

In short: PortShot is a free tool provided as-is. Your data stays with you — which also means you are responsible for it. PortShot is not financial advice.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using PortShot at https://portshot.app ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

PortShot is a free, serverless web application for tracking personal net worth through manually entered portfolio snapshots. The application runs entirely in your web browser. Your data is stored in your browser's local storage and, when you sign in with Google, in a file within your own Google Drive account. We operate no servers that store or process your data.

3. Not financial advice

PortShot is a record-keeping and visualization tool only. Nothing in the Service — including projections, compound interest simulations, loan amortization estimates, FIRE calculations, and currency conversions — constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Calculations are estimates based on the figures and assumptions you enter and on third-party exchange rates that may be inaccurate or out of date. Always consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions.

4. Your Google account

Google Drive sync requires a Google account. Your use of Google services is governed by Google's own terms and policies. PortShot requests only the limited Drive permissions needed to create and access its own data files, as described in our Privacy Policy. You may revoke this access at any time.

5. Your data and your responsibilities

You retain full ownership of all data you enter into PortShot. We claim no rights to it and have no access to it.
Because your data is stored only on your device and in your Google Drive, you are solely responsible for safeguarding and backing it up (for example, using the app's JSON export feature). We cannot recover data that you delete or lose.
You are responsible for the security of your own device and Google account.
If you use the sharing feature, you are responsible for who you grant access to and for the consequences of that sharing.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
Attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service or its delivery;
Misrepresent the Service as your own or remove attribution when redistributing it.

7. Availability and changes

The Service is provided free of charge. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time without notice or liability. Because your data lives in your own Google Drive in a standard JSON format, discontinuation of the Service does not result in loss of your data.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT CALCULATIONS WILL BE ACCURATE.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE CREATORS OF PORTSHOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR FINANCIAL LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
